We made our first trip to the zoo on Saturday! Over all, Cameron and I really enjoyed ourselves. Even though there were millions and trillions of little girl scouts running around for some kind of special day. The many little girls and their families really gave Emalyn a lot to watch....and she is quite the people watcher! We were surprised to see that she did find some monkeys and birds in the cages, and as you can see from the photo, she actually did point at the animals and says "That!" Of course I think she is just genius, but it is so neat to see her really developing even further into a human being! On another note, Miss Emalyn has gotten her first tooth poking through! Her demeanor has actually been great, maybe a couple rough nights stick in my mind as of the last week or two, but nothing I would complain too much about. Tylenol has been a great help....although it was just one dose, before bed. We have many more teeth to break their way through, so I pray they all incoming teeth go as "well" as this first one!

Oh girl. Teeth! Bubs seems to have a mouthfull -- 4 on the top and four on the bottom and he's had his hand shoved halfway back in his mouth for the past two days, so I'm thinking there are some others coming in back there. He truly is a mild mannered and mellow baby so I have been LUCKY in the teething department (Plus, I'm still able to nurse him even with all those teeth because he's not biting - such a good boy!). But there have been a few nights where he was struggling. He also has produced so much drool I think I could save it in a silo and run it through a filter to irrigate a corn field. It's a lot of drool. I hope Miss Emalyn cuts her teeth swiftly, and as painlessly as possible. I take comfort in knowing I don't remember cutting my own teeth, so they shouldn't be traumatized by this experience, either. One final thought: Motrin -when they're old enough -- works great for nightime teething. It lasts longer in their little systems so it helps them sleep for a longer stretch (6-8 hours instead of the 4 - 6 of tylenol) if they dont have to fight the pain through the night.
